These portable telephones with wireless handset actually communicate via radio waves with the base station connected to usually fixed telephone line, usually within the limited range of its base station. We can say, a cordless phone is a combination of two parts; one part is the handset and the other one is the base unit. The cordless phones however, use the radio frequencies to transmit the voice information. It sends as well as receives the digital signals from the base station to the handset and these signals are converted into sound which is audible to us.

The cordless phones are gaining popularity, as the phones with single, dual, multi-head system allow its user to interact with each other easily and at anytime. So due to the facility of multi-handset cordless phone we can transfer the call to one another as an intercom system. In addition to this, some of the great features of the cordless phones are call hold function, mute function, voice dialing, speed dialing, auto redial, call transfer and forwarding facility. Some other facilities like voice mail, caller id, speaker phone, the call waiting id have made it multi-tasking gadget.
